Following the postponement of last Thursday’s home game against La Crosse Aquinas, the Prairie du Chien Varsity Baseball team had two more chances to earn wins last week. First up for the Hawks was a visit by Dodgeville last Friday, April 24.
The Hawks took an early 1-0 lead with a run in the bottom of the first inning and held it until the top of the fourth inning when the Dodgers offense erupted for seven runs. The visitors would add two more runs in the top of the fifth inning to extend their lead to 9-1, which would be the final score.
Jacob Mara (six runs allowed on 10 hits and one walk with one strikeout in 3.1 innings pitched) started the game on the mound for the Hawks and took the loss while Jack Simmons came on in relief (three runs allowed on three hits and six walks and two walks in 3.2 innings pitched).
Deacon Chesebro (3-for-4) was the only Hawk hitter to collect multiple hits in the loss. PdC also got hits from Drake Chesebro (1-for-3 with one run scored), Simmons (1-for-3), Westin Marx (1-for-3 and one RBI), Jake Kramer (1-for-1), Mara (1-for-2) and Cayden Sutter (1-for-2).
Prairie du Chien traveled to Copeland Park the next morning to take on La Crosse Central and were held to two hits in a 6-0 loss. Prestin Nolan (four runs allowed on five hits and two walks in 3.0 innings pitched) started on the mound and took the loss for the Hawks.
He was relieved by Drake Chesebro (one run allowed on two hits and two walks with one strikeout in 2.0 innings pitched) and Sutter (one run allowed on one hit and two walks and two strikeouts in 1.0 inning pitched).
Marx (1-for-3) and Deacon Chesebro (1-for-3) were the only two base runners in the entire game for Prairie du Chien. The Hawks dropped to 3-6 overall with the two losses and 1-2 in the SWC with the loss to Dodgeville.
Prairie du Chien was scheduled to have another busy week this week. The Hawks were scheduled to travel to Fennimore this past Monday afternoon and then host River Valley yesterday before heading to Platteville this Thursday and then to East Dubuque on Friday afternoon.
