Facing a stretch of three games in five days last week, the Wauzeka-Steuben boys basketball had almost as tough of a schedule as the Hornets girls team.

The week began for the Hornets last Monday, Jan. 12 when they traveled to Ithaca for a makeup game with the Bulldogs that was postponed due to weather back in mid-December. The hosts got the better of Wauzeka-Steuben on this night with a 60-39 victory. Cooper Lomas had a double-double with a team-high 16 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Hornets. He was followed in the scoring log by Theo Millin with 11 points, Julius Cooley with four points, Bentley Dums and Cody Wagner with three points each and Josh Martin with two points.

Wauzeka-Steuben was back at home the next night to face the Potosi/Cassville Chieftains and the visitors from the Six Rivers Conference dealt the Hornets a 58-38 defeat. Once again it was Lomas leading W-S in both points and rebounds with 18 points and eight rebounds. Millin also reached double figures in scoring with 10 points. He was followed by Cooley (eight points) and Martin (two points) to round out the Hornets scoring log.

La Farge came to town last Thursday, Jan. 15 to take on W-S in the final game of the week for the Hornets. The visiting Wildcats came out on top with a 60-44 win over the host Hornets. Lomas led the Hornets with 22 points, seven rebounds and five steals in the loss, while Cooley (12 points), Cody Wagner (five points), Clint Mitchell (three points) and Millin (two points) completed the Hornets scoring tally. The loss dropped Wauzeka-Steuben to 1-8 overall and 1-3 in the Ridge & Valley Conference while La Farge improved to 4-7 overall and 2-3 in conference play.

The Hornets were back home this week for a pair of games. Following this past Tuesday night’s game against top ranked North Crawford, the Hornet boys host De Soto this Friday, Jan. 23 with start time scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
