The Wauzeka-Steuben Hornets Volleyball team had a bit of an odd schedule last week. The Hornets played two matches last week, both against the same team, the Weston Silver Eagles. Wauzeka was the host team last Tuesday, Oct. 7 and then Weston was the host team two nights later in Cazenovia.
The story was the same for both games, a sweep by the Hornets. Wauzeka-Steuben began the week by hosting the Silver Eagles for pink night with the Hornets coming away victorious after sweeping the visiting Silver Eagles 25-12, 25-19 and 25-17.
Two nights later the Hornets traveled to Cazenovia where they once again swept the Silver Eagles in three sets (25-19, 25-12 and 25-18) to improve to 10-5 overall and 8-4 in the Ridge & Valley Conference.
The Hornets hosted Ithaca this past Tuesday night before welcoming Kickapoo to Wauzeka tomorrow night to conclude the regular season. Wauzeka-Steuben will begin the playoffs next Tuesday, Oct. 21 when they once again host the Weston Silver Eagles in a WIAA D5 Regional Quarterfinal match.
The Prairie du Chien Blackhawks were back on the road at Dodgeville last Tuesday, Oct. 7 for a conference match with the Dodgers. The Dodgers were victorious three sets to none (25-12, 25-10 and 25-23). PdC concluded their week this past Saturday at the La Crosse Logan Invitational, their final tournament of the regular season. Complete results were not available as of press time but what was known is that the Hawks were defeated by Cochrane-Fountain City (13-25, 17-25) and Plainview-Elgin-Millville, Minn. (25-27, 17-25).
Prairie du Chien (2-17, 0-8) wrapped up their home schedule this past Tuesday night when they hosted Lancaster on senior night before going to Platteville on Thursday for the regular season finale. The Hawks will travel to Darlington next Tuesday, Oct. 21 for a D3 Regional Quarterfinal match against the Redbirds.
The Seneca Royals inched closer to their third conference title in the last four seasons with a pair of Ridge & Valley Conference victories this past week.
First up was a home match against the La Farge/Youth Initiative Wildcats last Tuesday, Oct; 7 and the Royals earned a three-set sweep over the co-op with wins of 25-9, 25-11 and 25-8. During the match, junior libero Emma Manning recorded her 1000th career dig.
Seneca traveled to Viola two nights later to take on the Kickapoo Panthers and the Royals once again earned a three-set sweep, this time winning 25-16, 25-9 and 25-14.
Seneca (20-3, 13-0) began the final week of the 2025 regular season this past Monday, Oct. 13 by traveling to Cazenovia to take on the Weston Silver Eagles before hosting second place De Soto this past Tuesday. The Royals will also remain at home next week when they start their postseason journey by hosting a D5 Regional Semifinal contest on Thursday, Oct. 23.
