The Wauzeka-Steuben girls basketball team entered last week looking to extend their five-game winning streak and they had plenty of chances to do so with three games in five days scheduled.
First up was a trip to Muscoda last Monday, Jan. 5 to face the Riverdale Chieftains and the Hornets used a 41-22 halftime lead to hand the hosts a 69-40 defeat.
Wauzeka-Steuben had three girls reach double figures in scoring, led by ninth grader Abby Wright with 18 points. She was followed by seniors Macy Mitchell (13 points) and Natalie Wright (12 points), while fellow senior Isabella nearly had a quadruple-double with 12 rebounds, eight points, seven steals and five assists. The Hornets also got six points each from juniors Violet Mitchell and Claire Wright and sophomore Hayley Mitchell.
It was off to Seneca three nights later to take on the Royals in RVC action and the Hornets came away with a 43-26 victory. Team stats for Wauzeka from this game were unavailable as of press time.
Wauzeka-Steuben concluded the week the next night by hosting the Richland Center Hornets and W-S came away with a 53-26 victory. Stats for this game were also unavailable at the time. Richland Center dropped to 2-12 overall with the loss, while the win moved Wauzeka-Steuben to 9-1 overall.
W-S kicked off another week with three games in five days this past Monday night, Jan. 12 by hosting Viroqua and then at North Crawford last night before traveling to La Farge this Friday night for a 6 p.m. game against the Wildcats.
