The Wauzeka-Steuben Hornets boys basketball team entered last week on an eight-game losing streak that dated back to their only win of the season on Dec. 12 against Weston. The left the week with their first two-game winning streak of the season.
Welcoming the Brookwood Falcons of the Scenic Bluffs Conference to Wauzeka last Monday, Jan. 26, the Hornets got a much needed 72-61 victory to snap their losing streak at eight games.
Wauzeka-Steuben was guided in scoring by a pair of 20-point performances from Theo Millin (23 points) and Cooper Lomas (20 points) with both also reaching double digits in rebounds with 13 for Millin and Lomas collecting a remarkable 19 (with 15 coming on defense). Julius Cooley (nine points), Josh Martin and Bentley Dums (six points each), Cody Wagner (five points) and Clint Mitchell (three points) rounded out the Hornets scoring.
The Hornets traveled to Cazenovia three nights later to take on the Weston Silver Eagles and came back with a 73-47 win. Stats from this game were not available as of press time.
Wauzeka-Steuben improved to 3-10 overall and 2-5 in the Ridge & Valley Conference with the win.
The Hornets were back home this past Tuesday night to host Ithaca before hosting the top ranked team in D5 in Kickapoo this Friday night. Wauzeka-Steuben concludes the week this Saturday night with a road game at Prairie du Chien at 7:30 p.m.
