Despite holding a 35-30 lead at halftime, the Seneca Royals boys basketball dropped a tough contest to the defending D5 state champion Cochrane-Fountain City Pirates by the score of 73-70 last Tuesday, Dec. 23.

The Royals got a team-high 22 points from senior Hunter Hagensick, a double-double of 19 points and 12 rebounds from senior Jackson Konichek and had two more players reaching double figures in scoring in seniors Gage Wall with 13 points and Kaden Roberts with 11 points. Roberts also added six assists and four rebounds in the loss. C-FC improved to 4-2 on the season with the win, while Seneca fell to 2-4.

The Royals resumed play this past Saturday, Dec. 27 at the River Ridge Holiday Tournament. Seneca opened the day with a 76-61 win over Westby before falling to the Timberwolves 71-65 in the championship game later in the day. Stats from both games were not available as of press time.

Seneca (3-5) is now off until next Tuesday, Jan. 6 when they travel to Soldiers Grove to take on North Crawford at 7:15 p.m.
