Despite playing only one game last week, the Seneca Royals boys basketball team made the most of it.
Seneca welcomed the Weston Silver Eagles to town last Tuesday, Jan. 20 and the Royals handed the visitors an 88-51 setback.
Leading the way for Seneca was senior Jackson Konichek, who dominated the Silver Eagles defense to the tune of 33 points on a blistering 12-of-14 (86 percent) shooting from the field to go along with seven rebounds, four steals and three assists.
Konichek was not the only Royal player to have a big game statistically as fellow seniors Kaden Roberts (18 points on 6-of-10 shooting) and Hunter Hagensick (12 points on 5-of-13 shooting) also reached double figures in scoring. Hagensick also grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.
The Royals scoring log was rounded out by junior Owen George (nine points), senior Gage Wall (six points, which combined with seven rebounds, five assists and six steals gave him a near quadruple-double), junior Dakota Owens (four points), senior Carson Sime, sophomore Aidan Payne and freshman Sam Gallagher (two points each).
The Royals improved to 5-7 overall and 2-4 in the Ridge & Valley Conference with the win.
Seneca’s game at La Farge that was scheduled for last Thursday, Jan. 22 was postponed due to weather.
The Royals have a much busier schedule this week with three games in five days. Following last night’s non-conference game at Potosi/Cassville, the Seneca boys head to Kickapoo this Thursday night for a battle with the no. 1 ranked team in D5 before making the trek this Saturday to the Just-A-Game Fieldhouse in Wisconsin Dells to take on the Tri-County Penquins. Game time for this non-conference matchup is set for 4:10 p.m.
