The Seneca Royals girls basketball team took advantage of being at home for two games last week by picking up a pair of victories.

First up for the Royals was a visit by the Weston/Ithaca co-op last Monday, Feb. 2. The two teams played to a close first half with the Royals holding a slim 24-22 halftime lead. The second half saw the Royals extend their lead just enough to give themselves a little bit of breathing room as they pulled away for a 46-40 victory.

Seneca was led by a very balanced scoring tally as eight different Royal players scored in the game. Leading the way for the Royals was senior Dhyllan Kemp with 15 points. She was followed by Rita Sime (eight points), Lily Payne (six points), Emma Manning and Grace Varo (five points each), Aylah Baker (three points as well as a team-high eight rebounds and six assists) and Sophia Clark and Camryn Lenzendorf (two points each).

Seneca was back home three nights later as North Crawford came to town. The Royals were in control from the start and never looked back as they jumped out to a 35-9 halftime lead before outscoring the Trojans 25-23 in the second half enroute to a 60-32 victory.

This time the Royals were led offensively by three players in double figures. Payne (15 points), Kemp (13 points and a team-high nine rebounds) and Lenzendorf (12 points) paced the Royals offense. Also getting in the scoring log was Sime (eight points), Clark and Varo (four points each) and Manning and Zoey Aspenson (two points each).

Seneca improved to 7-11 overall and 3-5 in the Ridge & Valley Conference with the two wins

The Royals started this week off by traveling to Wauzeka this past Tuesday night to take on the Hornets before welcoming La Farge to Seneca this Friday night at 7:00 p.m.
