Royal boys defeated twice, beat Tri-County

The Seneca Royals boys basketball team hit the road three times this past week and came back with a 1-2 record.

First up was a trip to Cassville last Tuesday, Jan. 27 to take on the Potosi/Cassville co-op and the Chieftains handed the Royals a 67-45 defeat.

Seneca’s offense struggled in the loss, with only two players reaching double figures. Seniors Jackson Konichek (14 points) and Hunter Hagensick (12 points) paced the Royals in scoring, with Owen George and Kaden Roberts adding eight points each while Dakota Owens (six points) and Gage Wall (two points) rounded out the scoring log for Seneca. Konichek also added team highs in rebounds (seven) and steals (three).

The Royals traveled to Kickapoo two nights later and the no. 1 ranked Panthers beat the Royals 77-44. Hagensick (15 points) and Wall (10 points) were the only Seneca players in double figures for points. Roberts (eight points), Konichek (five points), George and Basil Hall (three points each) rounded out Seneca’s scoring output in the game. Konichek grabbed six rebounds to lead the team.

Seneca finished their week this past Saturday with a trip to the Just-A-Game Fieldhouse in Wisconsin Dells to face the Tri-County Penquins in a neutral site non-conference contest. The Royals beat the Penquins 62-47 to snap their two-game losing streak and improve their overall record to 6-9 on the season so far.

Seneca is back home this week for a pair of conference games. First up was De Soto this past Tuesday night before the Royals welcome the second ranked North Crawford Trojans to Seneca High School this Friday, Feb. 6 with game time scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
