Competing at the Lee Griffin Invitational held at Kickapoo High School in Viola, the River Ridge wrestling team finished third of 12 competing teams last Saturday, scoring 115.5 points in eight weight classes.
The Timberwolves finished 51 points behind the first-place team from Onalaska/Luther and 31.5 points behind the second-place team from Boscobel/Wauzeka-Steuben. They were also 12 points ahead of the fourth-place team from Viroqua.
Leading River Ridge with a first-place finish in the 144-pound weight class was freshman Luke Wehrle, who went 2-1 on the day and scored a team-high 24 points on two pins.
Bringing home a second-place finish in the 120-pound weight class and scoring 20 points for the Timberwolves was fellow freshman Axel Morrow, who also went 2-1 on the day.
Junior Cael Koenig also finished second in the 150-pound weight class, where he went 2-1 and also scored 20 points, while fellow junior Braden Skaife finished second in the 285-pound weight class, going 2-1 and scoring 19 points.
Third-place finishes went to 126-pound senior Cam Wehrle, who went 3-1 and scored 15.5 points, and 175-pound junior Emery Simerson, who also went 3-1 and scored 17 points for his team.
This Saturday the Timberwolves will be in action at Weston, then will be at Pecatonica on Thursday, Jan. 22.
