Timberwolves pounce on Panthers

Coming away with 15 steals and scoring 22 points off their opponent’s 19 turnovers, coach Dan Moris and his River Ridge boys’ basketball team cruised to a 67-42 Six Rivers conference victory over visiting Juda last Friday night.

The win gave the Timberwolves a conference record of 2-1 and an overall mark of 5-3 heading into this past Tuesday night’s conference clash at Highland.

Against the Panthers, River Ridge used their aggressive defensive pressure to speed up their opponent, coming away with 15 steals that led to transition baskets on the other end.

Senior guard Brandon Davis led the home team with 23 points on 10-of-20 shooting from the floor and 3-of-5 from the free throw line. He also pulled down a team-high 14 rebounds to record a double-double, while also coming away with a team-high five steals and eight deflections.

Junior Noah Copsey also finished with a double-double, netting 14 points and pulling down 10 boards. Copsey also dished out a team-high six assists to go along with three steals.

Other top scorers for the Timberwolves included Lane Copsey with nine points and Brock Bunge with eight.

As a team, the Timberwolves averaged an impressive 1.03 points per possession, making 28-of-71 (39%) shot attempts, including 5-of-20 (25 percent) from 3-point range. They converted on 6-of-9 (67 percent) free throw attempts, committed 13 turnovers and out-rebounded their opponent 47-34.

Following this past Tuesday night’s contest at Highland, the River Ridge boys will next host Belmont Thursday night, and will be on the road to Black Hawk on Friday night.
