With a 60-55 victory over the host Zephyrs last Tuesday night, coach Dan Moris and his River Ridge boys’ basketball team improved to 5-3 in Six Rivers conference play, sitting two losses behind Belmont (7-1) and Potosi/Cassville (6-1).
Against the Zephyrs last Tuesday night, coach Moris’ squad outscored their opponent 30-18 in the paint, while both teams knocked down five 3-pointers. Benton held a slight advantage at the free throw line, outscoring the Timberwolves 14-11.
River Ridge held a halftime lead of 30-19 over their host, but was then outscored 36-30 in the second half, hanging on to secure a five-point victory.
From the field River Ridge knocked down 22-of-59 (37 percent) shot attempts, including 5-of-16 (31 percent) from long range. They were 11-of-20 (55 percent) from the free throw line, committed 18 turnovers and narrowly out-rebounded the Zephyrs 41-40.
Senior point guard Brandon Davis led River Ridge with 16 points on 6-of-18 shooting from the floor and 4-of-8 from the free throw line. He also pulled down a team-high 13 rebounds, dished out four assists and came away with six of his team’s 12 steals.
Brock Bunge chipped in 13 points, followed by Noah Copsey with eight and Lane Copsey and Jackson White with seven each.
This past Monday night the Timberwolves traveled to Iowa-Grant for a non-conference contest, and will next travel to Shullsburg this Thursday evening.
