Competing at the Scenic Ridge & Rivers Conference Tournament last Saturday, the River Ridge wrestling team finished in a tie for seventh place with 84.5 points, while three individual wrestlers earned all-conference recognition.
Taking the conference team title with 176.5 points was Royall/Wonewoc-Center, followed by Pecatonica/Argyle (162) in second and Ithaca/Weston (152.5) third.
Individually for the Timberwolves, junior Braden Skaife went 3-0 in his 190-pound bracket to become a conference champion.
Skaife scored a team-high 22 points, following a first-round bye with a pin in the quarterfinals, then collected a 6-3 decision in his semifinal match and a 16-9 decision in his title match.
Third-place finishes were also won by 165-pound junior Cael Koenig and 175-pound junior Emery Simerson.
Simerson, went 3-1 on the day, losing his only match in the semifinals, scored 18 points on three pins, while Koenig also went 3-1 and lost his semifinal match, but scored 17.5 points on two pins and a technical fall.
Other place winners for the Timberwolves included freshman Axel Morrow, who finished fourth in the 120-pound weight class, and senior Cam Wehrle, who placed fifth in the 126-pound weight class.
Coach Brad Lange’s Timberwolves will next compete this Saturday at the Division 3 Brookwood Sectional, where the top two finishers in each weight class advance to compete at the WIAA State Tournament on Feb. 26-28.
