River Ridge hits the mats at pair of meets

Hosted by Pecatonica/Argyle, the River Ridge wrestling team competed in a triple-dual last Thursday evening against the host Vikings and the Boscobel Bulldogs.

The Timberwolves first took the mat against Boscobel, where they gave up five forfeits and three pins in a 48-12 loss.

Coach Brad Lange’s squad picked up 12 points on two pins, one by 126-pound senior Cam Wehrle (1:56) and the other by 157-pound junior Cael Koenig (1:34).

Of the 14 weight classes, there were four double forfeits along with the five given up by River Ridge, making for five matches, all of which ended in pins.

Against host Pecatonica/Argyle, the Timberwolves gave up five forfeits, three pins and one decision in a 51-12 final.

River Ridge picked up 12 points on pins from Koenig (2:38) at 150 pounds, and from fellow junior Emery Simerson (1:49) at 175 pounds.

On the following Saturday the Timberwolves competed at the Arcadia Raider Challenge, where they finished 17th with 95.5 team points.

The top finishers for River Ridge were 144-pound freshman Luke Wehrle and 150-pound junior Cael Koenig, who each finished eighth in their weight class.

Both wrestlers went 2-3 on the day, Wehrle scoring 25 points on two pins and Koenig scoring 23 points on one pin and one decision.

Finishing ninth in the 215-pound bracket was River Ridge junior Braden Skaife, who went 2-2 on the day and scored 21 points for the Timberwolves. 

This Thursday night the Timberwolves will compete in the conference duals at Pecatonica, then will compete at North Crawford on Saturday, Feb. 7.
