A 30-14 halftime deficit proved to be too much to overcome for coach Michael DiPadova and his River Ridge girls’ basketball team, as they were handed a 64-43 Six Rivers conference loss from visiting Barneveld last Friday evening.
The loss dropped the Lady Timberwolves to a Six Rivers conference record of 2-3 and an overall mark of 7-4, while the Eagles improved to 5-0 in league play and 8-3 overall with the win.
Despite trailing their opponent by 16 points at halftime, the Timberwolves made a valiant comeback effort in the second half, were they were outscored by just five points, 34-29.
Leading River Ridge with 14 points was sophomore guard Adayah Groom, who knocked down four 3-pointers on the night.
Fellow sophomore Ava Nies chipped in 10 points, all coming in the second half, while juniors McKenzie Taylor and Erin Adrian finished with seven and six points respectively.
Following this past Tuesday night’s home non-conference contest against visiting Southwestern, the Lady T-Wolves will take on the top two teams in the conference standings, heading to Highland on Thursday night and to Belmont next Tuesday.
