Eagles rally past Timberwolves

After holding a halftime lead of 21-18 over visiting Fennimore in last Tuesday night’s season opener, host River Ridge was outscored 38-31 in the second half of a 56-52 loss in non-conference boys’ basketball action.

Under first-year head coach Dan Moris, the River Ridge boys opened the 2025-26 season at home, where they were 14-0 last season and 12-2 the year before.

Against the Golden Eagles, River Ridge was outscored 36-24 in the paint, and out-rebounded 33-24.

The Timberwolves committed 22 turnovers, which Fennimore converted into 23 points, while the Eagles turned the ball over 21 times, which River Ridge converted into 10 points.

Each team shot significantly well for their first game, River Ridge making 20-of-46 (43.5 percent) shot attempts, including 6-of-18 (33 percent) from 3-point range. They were also 6-of-12 (50 percent) from the free throw line, while scoring 0.78 points per possession.

Senior point guard Brandon Davis led the Timberwolves with 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field and 4-of-5 from the charity stripe. He also pulled down a team-high nine rebounds, dished out five assists and came away with three steals.

Close behind Davis was fellow senior Reese Drew, who finished with 13 points, two assists and two steals, while sophomore Lane Copsey chipped in eight points, four boards and two steals.

Following this past Tuesday night’s road game at North Crawford, the River Ridge boys will host Barneveld Thursday night, then will open play in the Six Rivers conference against visiting Shullsburg on Tuesday, Dec. 9.
