Wrestlers compete at Bi-State Classic

Local wrestlers traveled to the La Crosse Center in La Crosse last Monday, Dec. 29 and Tuesday, Dec. 30 to take part in the 43rd annual Bi-State Classic.

The boys tournament featured 68 teams including Prairie du Chien, Boscobel/Wauzeka-Steuben and North Crawford/Seneca. PdC led the way with a 29th place team finish overall (and seventh in D3) with 105.5 points. Boscobel/Wauzeka-Steuben finished 52nd overall (and 14th in D3) with 40.5 points, while North Crawford/Seneca was 59th overall (and 15th in D3) with 31.0 points.

Four local wrestlers earned a spot in the top 12 finishers in their weight class in the boys tournament. The list includes North Crawford/Seneca senior Sawyer Swiggum (4-3), 11th place at 215 pounds, Prairie du Chien  junior Hunter Reid (4-4), 12th at 120 pounds and PdC seniors Mason Hird (6-1), third place at 150 pounds and Jack Simmons (5-2), fourth place at 285 pounds. This was the second consecutive year placing in the top 12 at the tournament for all four wrestlers.

The girls tournament also featured PdC, Boscobel/Wauzeka-Steuben and North Crawford/Seneca. The girls tournament included 73 teams and the Blackhawks once again led the way by scoring 69.0 points to finish in 27th place as a team. North Crawford/Seneca was 40th with 56.0 points while Boscobel/Wauzeka-Steuben finished in 62nd place with 24.0 points.

The top finisher for local girls was North Crawford/Seneca senior Adrianna Logue, who finished as runner-up at 185 pounds with a 4-1 record. Junior teammate Harper Gagas went 4-3 during the tournament to finish in 11th place at 152 pounds.

The Hawks were led by junior Britney Petsche (5-2) and her fifth place finish at 185 pounds. Sophomore Aspen Gelo (4-3) followed up her seventh place finish in 2024 by placing 11th at 120 pounds to become the first PdC girls wrestler to place multiple times at the event. Also placing in the top 16 for the Prairie girls team was ninth graders Aleaha Wall (2-2), who placed 14th at 235 and Alyseia Schnitzler (2-2), who took 16th place at 100 pounds.
