The Prairie du Chien and North Crawford/Seneca girls wrestling teams were just two of 23 teams that competed in the eighth annual Central Girls Wrestling Invitational at Central Elkader High School this past Friday night, Jan. 9.
Behind only six competitors, Prairie du Chien still managed to finish in 11th place as a team with 71.5 points. North Crawford/Seneca competed with just two wrestlers yet finished two spots behind PdC as they finished in a tie with Nashua-Plainfield, Iowa for 13th place with 43.0 points.
Leading the way for the Hawks was junior Britney Petsche as she went 3-0 with two pins to place first in the 170 pound bracket. Sophomore Aspen Gelo went 4-1 with three pins to place third at 120 pounds for PdC.
The Hawks also got a seventh place finish at 100 pounds from ninth grader Alyseia Schnitzler and a pair of eighth place finishes from ninth graders Paytin Primmer (2-3 at 130) and Lyla Redman (2-3 at 145). Sophomore Hannah Ingham just missed placing at 125 with a 1-2 record on the night.
North Crawford/Seneca junior Harper Gagas went 4-2 en route to placing fifth at 155 pounds, while senior Adrianna Logue won the 190 pound bracket with a 4-0 record.
Prairie du Chien returned to action this past Monday night, Jan. 12 at the Lancaster Girls Invitational.
North Crawford/Seneca meanwhile competed at the Lee Griffin Girls Invitational at Kickapoo High School this past Saturday, Jan. 10, where they tied with Boscobel/Wauzeka-Steuben for sixth place overall out of 18 teams with 54 points. Both Gagas (3-0 at 152) and Logue (3-0 at 235) placed first in their brackets respectively. NC/S will travel to Wausau West High School this Saturday, Jan. 17 for the Warrior Women’s Challenge.
