The Prairie du Chien Blackhawks Boys Wrestling team hosted their first home meet of the 2025-26 season last Tuesday, Jan. 27 when they hosted the Caledonia-Houston Warriors for youth/sponsor night.
The visiting Warriors came out of the gates hot as they won each of the first five matches via pin to take an early 30-0 lead. The Hawks would not go away quietly however (despite being without two starters), as they used back-to-back pins at 138 and 144 by Brylee Brewer and Porter Kossman and a forfeit win at 150 pounds by Mason Hird to make the dual score 30-18.
The Hawks cut into the deficit even more when junior Brady Bumgartner picked up a win by decision at 157 pounds to make the score 30-21 with five matches to go in the dual.
The visitors would have the last laugh however as they picked up wins at 165, 175 and 285 pounds to seal the dual win. Prairie du Chien did get a forfeit win by Payton Beinborn at 190 pounds and a thrilling pin at 215 pounds from Jack Simmons as the dual ended with the score in favor of Caledonia-Houston 45-33.
The Hawks ended the week with the SWAL-SWC Clash Tournament at Richland Center High School this past Saturday, Jan. 31.
Prairie du Chien got a championship win from Hird at 150 pounds and runner-up finishes from Keaton Achenbach (106) and Simmons (215) to finish in fifth place out of 13 teams with 126.0 points.
Also placing for the Hawks on the day were Hunter Reid (third at 120 pounds), Gage Hrubes (fifth place at 126 pounds), Kossman (fifth place at 144 pounds), Jake Kramer (fifth place at 175 pounds) and Tyson Fernette (sixth place at 113 pounds).
A couple of PdC wrestlers with personal milestones during the tournament as Hird became the sixth wrestler in program history to reach 150 wins or more in their career, while Simmons earned his 100th career pin.
The Hawks conclude their regular season this Thursday night when they host the Waukon boys team and the Onalaska/Onalaska Luther co-op boys and girls teams in a mixed quadrangular meet for parents and senior night. The first dual will begin at 5:00 p.m. at the Prairie du Chien Fieldhouse.
