The Prairie du Chien boys wrestling team took to the road twice last week for a pair of meets. The Hawks traveled to Riverdale High School for a triangular with the host Chieftains and Mineral Point. The Pointers defeated the Hawks 52 to 25 in the first dual of the night. Picking up wins for the Hawks was Linus Wechsel (106), Hunter Reid (120), Brylee Brewer (138), Mason Hird (150) and Jack Simmons (215).
The second match of the night pitted the Hawks against the host Chieftains and PdC earned a 46-29 dual victory. Complete results were not available as of press time. However, with a win against the Chieftains, junior Hunter Reid became the newest member of Prairie Wrestling’s 100 career wins club.
Prairie du Chien hit the road again the following night when they traveled to Melrose-Mindoro High School for a quadrangular meet with G-E-T/Mel-Min, Menomonie and Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln.
The Hawks wrestled the Mustangs of Menomonie in the first round and the Hawks were narrowly defeated by the Mustangs 35-33. Picking up wins for the Hawks in the match were Keaton Achenbach (106), Reid (120), Landon Thiry (132), Porter Kossman (144), Hird (150) and Simmons (215). The final match of the dual featured two wrestlers ranked third at 215 in their respective divisions in Simmons (D3) and Menomonie’s Bryce Shepard (D1) with Shepard entering the match 13-0 on the season. Simmons defeated Shepard 6-4 to win the ranked battle and give Shepard his first loss of the season.
Round two for the Hawks was against the host Titans and the hosts showed the strength of their squad this season by defeating the Hawks 51-16. Picking up wins for Prairie du Chien was Achenbach, Reid, Hird and Jake Kramer (165). G-E-T/Mel-Min would go on to finish 3-0 on the night as they defeated Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln 48-18 in round one and Menomonie 50-17 in round three.
The last dual of the night for the Hawks was against perennial D1 power Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln and the Red Raiders showed why they lead the state with 21 state team championships by defeating the Hawks 55-22. PdC got wins from Reid, Hird, Kramer and Simmons.
The Hawks go to Iowa-Grant High School this Thursday for a dual with the I-G/H co-op that could be a preview of a potential matchup at the team sectional next month. The dual is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start time.
PdC then heads to Fort Atkinson two days later for the annual TKO tournament with wrestling scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m.
