The Prairie du Chien boys basketball team returned home last week to host a pair of games.
First up last Friday night was a conference game against the Richland Center Hornets. These two teams played at Richland Center back in late December with the Hornets defeating the Hawks 64-45.
Prairie’s defense held the Hornets to just 53 points this time around but the offense was unable to catch up as Richland Center earned the season sweep with a 53-44 win. Stats were unavailable as of press time.
The Hawks were back in action the very next night against another Hornets team, this time the Wauzeka-Steuben boys team as part of a doubleheader including the girls teams.
Prairie went into halftime holding a slim 27-24 lead on Wauzeka before pushing ito 28-24 early in the second half.
The two teams would exchange buckets a few more times before Prairie du Chien took a three-point lead with under a minute remaining. Two late baskets by the Hornets’ Cooper Lomas combined with a costly inbounds violation saw the Hawks down with one with six seconds remaining in the game. PdC missed their final two shot attempts and Wauzeka-Steuben left with a 39-38 victory.
Lomas accounted for 24 of the Hornets’ 39 points. Stats for the Hawks were not available as of press time.
The Hawks (1-18) host River Valley this Thursday night before traveling to Wisconsin Dells on Friday night and Westfield this Saturday.
