Entering last Tuesday night, the Prairie du Chien boys basketball team held a record that no team wants to hold and that was the record for longest current losing streak by a Wisconsin varsity boys basketball team, which they held at 36 games. The Hawks last win was a 66-38 home win over Evansville in the D3 regional quarterfinals on February 27, 2024.
The Hawks’ opponent last Tuesday night, the Coulee Christian/Providence Academy co-op of West Salem, entered the game with a 28-game losing streak of their own which was the second longest active losing streak in Wisconsin boys basketball. The two teams played a fairly close first half, with PdC holding a 29-17 lead at halftime. It was all Prairie du Chien in the second half however, as they outscored the visiting Eagles 40-7 to earn a 69-24 victory and the team’s first win since February 2024.
Seven different Hawks scored in the win, led by a game high 20 points from senior Sam Kramer. Sophomores Brice Krachey (14 points) and Cayden Sutter (12 points and a team high five assists) also reached double figures in scoring for the Hawks in the win. Also scoring for the Hawks was seniors Ashton Landt (nine points) and Garrett DeHart (eight points), sophomore Landon Smith (four points, as well as a team high five rebounds) and senior Steven Duha (two points). Prairie du Chien improved their record to 1-10 with the win, while Coulee Christian/Providence Academy dropped to 0-7.
Prairie du Chien was back at home two nights later as they welcomed rival Lancaster to town but it was all Flying Arrows as they handed the Hawks a 74-24 loss to improve to 10-1 while Prairie fell to 1-11. Stats from this game were not available as of press time.
Prairie du Chien concluded the week this past Saturday afternoon with a non-conference game at Waverly-Shell Rock High School in Waverly, Iowa. The Go-Hawks were just too much for the Blackhawks, jumping out to leads of 14-1 after one quarter and 34-3 at halftime before outscoring the Hawks 23-18 in the second half to hand Prairie du Chien a 57-22 defeat.
Stats from this game were not available at press time. W-SR improved to 6-6 with the win, while PdC slipped to 1-12.
The Hawks stay on the road this week with a pair of games. First up is a trip to Dodgeville this Friday night followed by a trip to Westfield the following evening. The Dodgeville game is scheduled for 7:30 while the Westfield game is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
