Area girls wrestlers qualify for sectional meet

Eight area girls wrestlers qualified for this week’s WIAA sectional meet at Mineral Point after finishing in the top two at their respective weight classes at last Friday, Feb. 13’s WIAA regional meet at Richland Center.

Boscobel-Wauzeka-Steuben’s Ali Jelinek (second at 100 pounds) and Payten Sander (first at 107 pounds), North Crawford-Seneca’s Harper Gagas (first at 145 pounds) and Adrianna Logue (first at 185 pounds) and Prairie du Chien’s quartet of Kylee Langdon (first at 114 pounds), Aspen Gelo (second at 120 pounds), Hannah Ingham (first at 126 pounds) and Britney Petsche (first place at 165 pounds) will all continue their season at the sectional meet this Friday night as they look to advance to next week’s individual state meet in Madison.

Just missing qualifying were PdC’s Alyseia Schnitzler (third at 100 pounds) and Lyla Redman (third at 145 pounds) and Boscobel-Wauzeka-Steuben’s Ava Roth (third at 185 pounds).

Also competing at the regional with fourth place finishes were Boscobel-Wauzeka-Steuben wrestlers Alayna Krachey (120 pounds) and Tatum Brudos (165 pounds).

For Prairie du Chien, they also ended the regular season at the Holmen Girls Scramble last Monday, Feb. 9. The Hawks finished in fifth place out of 16 teams with 228.0 points. 

The top two finishers at each weight class at this Friday’s sectional meet will qualify for next week’s individual state tournament.
