George A. Kahler, aged 86 of Prairie du Chien passed away Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2025, at Crossing Rivers Health in Prairie du Chien.
He was born on April 20, 1939, to Franklin and Leone (LaBonne) Kahler. He began working as a lifeguard in Prairie du Chien, where he met the love of his life, Janet.
George graduated from Prairie du Chien High School before going to serve in the U.S. Navy. He married Janet Gremore on April 28, 1962, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Prairie du Chien.
George worked as an electrician for Northern States Power for 33 years until retirement. In 1999, George received a heart and kidney transplant, blessing his family with 26 extra years.
He enjoyed fishing and camping at Jellystone Park with his family for many years. He also loved to play bingo at Hoffman Hall and the nursing home, both in Prairie du Chien.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years Janet; daughter Dana (Dan Hoover) Kahler; sisters-in-law Sharon Pettit, Karen Bierman, and Chris Gremore; brothers-in-law John Gremore, Norb Aschom, and Tom Mulligan; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Donald Kahler, Patricia Heisz, and Sandra Mulligan.
A Memorial Service will be Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2025, at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Church of the Holy Family Parish, Fr. Brandon Guenther officiating, with burial in the Calvary Cemetery, both in Prairie du Chien.
